Impact Attenuation
Low clearance railway bridges are susceptible to over-height truck collisions. Structural failure of railroad bridges due to collision may cause loss of life and severe setbacks to road and freight transportation. Owners and administrators have identified that newer drivers of over-height trucks are less familiar with clearance regulations. Railway engineers want to attenuate over-height truck collisions on railway bridges and to ensure the safety of transportation operations. We have developed with our collaborator Wang Tao and Ali Ozdagli crash beams to protect our critical infrastructure. We are interested in models, analysis, and energy absorption against lateral impact.
